The crew of the RNLI St Catherine's Lifeboat Crew were paged tonight by Jersey Coastguard following reports of a vessel drifting in the St Catherine's bay area. Upon arriving at the station, several crew members were dispatched to the Belval Cove area of St Catherine's to identify the drifting casualty's position and current condition. A decision was made to launch the lifeboat and to attempt to establish a tow. The RNLI St Catherine's Lifeboat “Eric Rowse” was launched into rough seas and was quickly on the scene. A tow was established in difficult circumstances and the casualty was towed clear of danger into St Catherine's bay. The owners of the vessel had been contacted and were now on scene. In light of the current and forecast weather, and following a discussion with the lifeboat crew, the decision was made to tow the casualty to Gorey harbour. The RNLI St Catherine's Lifeboat proceeded to tow the casualty to Gorey harbour where it was handed back to the owners having been made fast to a mooring. The RNLI St Catherine's Lifeboat then returned to station.
