A View of St Catherine's Lifeboat Station

St Catherine's has been host to a lifeboat station since 1969 when a 'D' Class was situated on the north side of Gibraltar rock at the landward end of St Catherine's breakwater. The Lifeboat Station was re-located to St Catherine's Bay near Martello Tower to house the new Atlantic 21 in In October 1990 and in March 2001 the station received its own Atlantic 75, "Eric Rowse".

The St. Catherine's Lifeboat Station is manned by 12 sea-going crew, 1 launcher/mechanic, 1 launcher and 1 shore helper, all of whom live close to the station and are dedicated volunteers. On standby 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the crew are called by a pager system and are prepared to respond immediately to ensure that the Lifeboat is launched as quickly as possible.
